A Movie That Blew My Brain to Pieces

Oh, God. Just as I thought. I did not survive it. I saw INFERNAL AFFAIRS 3, a Hong Kong movie which disappointed. I guess I should have figured from the title. "Infernal" Affairs indeed. Serves me right for not being alert enough. I fell asleep halfway - quite literally(halfway, i mean). Right after the first disc and like, 5 seconds into the second disc.

Why am i still yapping about a movie that caused some parts of my brain to have been - in computer lingo - "improperly shut down" ?

Right. Let's instead talk about GREAT movies. That'd work.

Afdlin Shauki has made it. He made one of the coolest movie - bluidy funny shit - of the year. It's called Baik Punya Ciluk and i love the dialogue. It is interesting, it is funny, it is very...familiar - so viewers can relate - it is original and more importantly, it's REAL. He wrote the script just as how the locals would have talked it. It didn't give me the rash(if you get me) I get when I watch a local movie and wonder to myself, "WHO the heck talks like that?"

My colleagues(we watched separately) and I especially loved the Kelantanese English (that's English in the Kelantanese dialect) parts and we have taken to attempt(I dont use this word lightly. We DO try) on speaking that way whenever the fancy hit us. Which is to say, quite a lot of times in the mornings - during our breakfast in the pantry(which is next to HR, so you can guess what daring people we are), during lunch, while working when we're communicating, and well, you kinda get the picture. It's horrible immitation of the 'fine' art, but we enjoyed it all the same.

The characters are quite original too. To me, at least. Afdlin was the guy who couldn't have people screaming at him, or he'd faint deadaway, Awie is the macho bouncer who reads Malay romance novels and gets inspired by Spanish soaps, AC Mizal became the loyal grandson who cannot lie because his grandmother told him so, and Hans Isaac was the guy who couldn't quit gambling. There was also, Harith Iskandar who played a cop that forgets what he's saying midway, like.. "All of you better not try to run away because..." he pauses and everyone kind of pauses with him...until after like, 5 beats and he remembers again enough to continue, "..this place is surrounded..."

Anyway,.. BRAVO to Afdlin Shauki and pals. They pulled off the movie of the year in my book - mostly because it was fantastic, and it was Malaysian - very Malaysian and I am so proud of them.

I've always been one to be touched by those who have achieved their dreams.. or very much on their way of meeting them. I respect these people. And it always makes me tear up..*sniff* *sniff*.. because well, no wonder since i'm chasing my own still ..

Well, as one quote goes, "God did not provide the passion without the talent." ... One of my favourite quotes.

Maybe I must know my passions well and true before I think I've missed out on the talent part..

Maybe..
